Tuesday: Arrival at Keflavik airport, transfer to Reykjavik. Hired car, drove to Thingvellir, Geysir, Gulfoss waterfall and thence to Hella.
Wednesday: We engaged 4-wheel drive and went up the track to green and pleasant Thorsmork, visiting our first glaciers and fording our first rivers. On the return we passed a couple of large waterfalls and ended up in Vik
Thursday: First a look over a really high cliff on the southernmost point of Iceland, then more off-roading, this time through snowdrifts as well on the way to visit Lakagigar - a giant row of volcano craters that erupted in 1783, causing a cold winter throughout Europe and, some say, precipetating the French Revolution. Overnight in Skaftafell at the foot of a glacier
Friday: Our furthest point east - Icebergs in a glacier lagoon, a private waterfall just made for two, and a superb meal at Kirkjubaejarklaustur.
Saturday: A walk up a river canyon, hitch-hikers from Switzerland, Puffin cliff and back to Hella.
Sunday: A long bumpy drive past Hekla volcano to Landmannalaugar, where we bathe in a hot spring. Crater lakes. Burfell hydro-electric powerstation. Back to Reykjavik for the night.
Monday: In Reykjavik - the big white church, shopping & a good lunch. West coast of Reykjanes peninsular, the Blue Lagoon. Back to Reykjavik for the Volcano Show. Out to the airport for the trip home.
