Kings School Worcester, Sub-Aqua Club
Red Sea holiday - October 2001
The trip on Mahy this year was even better than our previous ones. Dan Newcombe, Mike Parks and Ed Pearce all achieved their Dive Leader grades - and this grade is not just hard to achieve, its as high as anyone has got within Kings.
Rupert Lewis and Joe Procter-Nicholls got their Sports Diver grades during the trip too, and we all revelled in the warm 25°C water and terrific visibility.
Michael Wilby used the extra 18 dive opportunities to the full, and now has the fullest logbook of all those who started diving in October 2000. He also gained the Club Diver standard while he was at it.
We had 6 excellent wreck dives, 3 night dives with lots of lethal beasts about, and another 11 dives on reefs. One dive was a bit special - and fitted none of these categories - it was a "Blue Water" dive, done to 20m out in the middle of the blue behind one of the Tiran Straits reefs, and resulted in us all coming within 2m of a huge hammerhead shark which came by to inspect us.
